Just had a conversation with a 30 year old young man I respect. I told him I didn't understand what is with all the zombies you see everywhere in the media, games, movies, everywhere! He looked me full in the face, squared his shoulders and this is what he told me:
"It is sociologically and economically related to the times. Look a my generation," he said. "I am thirty two years old, I have two degrees and just now, this summer, have I finally landed a job that pays well and has benefits for my family. I worked ten years out of college at jobs that were part time or paid next to nothing. I was just out there. I did everything I was told to do, got good grades, and even two degrees. And I have about a hundred friends out there too. Just banging around looking like zombies. Not real people, just empty shells. But just this summer, I finally have a good job in my field. It's a different world out there. We all do as we are told, but we aren't really alive. We're just like zombies, lurching around just trying to live. Do you know what an entry level job is today? Three to five years experience. I have friends," he went on, "who feel exactly like zombies. Reduced to trying to feed off each other or those who are "alive" with a real job. Resenting people with jobs, or even worse super resenting those who have worked their whole lives and now have retired with a pension. What is that about? Why do we have to feel like this?"
Why indeed? We shouldn't be angry about the debt ceiling, or A.D.A. or anything else out there until we get these people to work!!! We are wasting a whole generation of talent, of skill, of good people who only want to work at good jobs.
Zombies? our sons and daughters and brothers and sisters? Dear God in Heaven let us get our priorities straight and solve this!!
